Jean Muller on his Beethoven Piano Sonata Marathon
In the face of many concert cancellations, I have come to the decision to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday in quite a different fashion than what I had initially planned. Starting May 10th, I shall perform on the world wide web every Sunday one Piano Sonata of the great Ludwig van. Thus after 32 weeks the cycle of Piano Sonatas shall be complete on Dec 13th just a few days before the 250th birthday of Beethoven on Dec 17th. The concerts will take place at 4 pm Luxembourg time, as an homage to one of my other great idols, the pianist Vladimir Horowitz, who used to play his recitals Sunday at 4 pm. At first these performances will be streamed from the coziness of my home, and later maybe also in other places depending on the developments of the ongoing health crisis. Beethoven’s music is singularly uplifting, and deeply inspiring. Currently I found his music very helpful to get me through these difficult times, so please feel free to join me on this journey. Let’s beat the virus and celebrate Beethoven.
